Somewhere is a song from the 1957 Broadway musical West Side Story and the 1961 film. The music was composed by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and takes a phrase from the slow movement of Beethoven's 'Emperor' Piano Concerto, which forms the start of the melody. The song has also been recorded by many artists, and released as a single by several, including Barbra Streisand, The Supremes, Phil Collins, Johnny Mathis, Julian Lloyd Webber, Aretha Franklin, Bobby Darin, Devo, Tom Waits, P. J. Proby, Oscar Peterson, Il Divo, Dutch Rockband Zinatra, Donald Braswell II, Pet Shop Boys, Kylie Minogue, Jane McDonald, Charlotte Church, Josh Groban, Jennifer Hudson, La Toya London, Leona Lewis, Celtic Woman & Katharine McPhee. Most recently, British saxophonist Julian Smith performed a rendition of the song on his soprano saxophone in the 2009 final of Britain's Got Talent.

In 1985, Barbra Streisand released a version of "Somewhere" as a single off the Grammy award winning The Broadway Album, charting at #43 in the US ("Billboard Hot 100") and #88 in the UK.

British singer Phil Collins later covered the song in 1996 for the West Side Story cover album The Songs of West Side Story.

"Somewhere" was released as a single by the British music group Pet Shop Boys in 1997 to promote their "Somewhere" residency at the Savoy Theatre in London, which was named after the song, and to promote a repackage of Bilingual.

Marilyn Monroe - Something's Got to Give - 1962 (RARE PHOTOS)

On April 23, 1962, Marilyn arrived at the 20th Fox Studios to do some costume and hair tests,

Later as we know Marilyn didn't come to work because she was sick, she had sinusitis.

Her private doctor, Dr Hyman Engelberg, and the studio doctor, Dr Lee Siegel, agreed on Marilyn's need of rest.

On June 7, 1962, Marilyn was officially dismissed for "breach of contract", after Levathes had stopped the project.

On July 25, 1962, Peter Levathes personally went to Marilyn's home to announce to her that Fox wanted her back - not only that, but they agreed to pay her a higher salary.

Marilyn's lawyer, Milton Rudin, set about working on the contractual details of her return to the set.

On Marilyn's suggestion, Jean Negulesco was asked if he would agree to direct the movie.

On August 1, 1962, 4 days before Marilyn's death, Fox signed a new contract for her, with a salary of $500,000.00.

Marilyn Monroe - Reading Scripts & on the Telephone 1962 by George Barris RARE

1962 - He is perhaps best known for his work with Marilyn Monroe, however, with whom he was collaborating on a book at the time of her death. As part of this project, he is believed to have taken the last photographs of Monroe while she was alive.

He did not allow these to be published until many years after her death.

George Barris and famed photographer Bert Stern claim to have taken the 'last picture' of Marilyn Monroe, when neither of them did, since photographer Allan Grant photographed Monroe on July 7, 1962 for a LIFE Magazine article.

This article was printed just two days before Monroe's death.

Marilyn Monroe - Photos (Rare & Unseen)

Marilyn Monroe: The sex symbol The Woman The actress

Marilyn Monroe (stage name of Norma Jean Baker) was born in Los Angeles in 1926.
Her artistic career began very early, when in 1945 took her first steps as a model.
In 1948 the first film in which she participated was "Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay!" where her part in many point was cut in the editing phase. Those were the years when the image of Marilyn was starting to get noticed with her pictures and thanks a famous calendar.
The photographer Tom Kelley in 1949, portrays naked Marilyn.
No vulgarity! Her was an innocent and unique beauty.
Three years later, when a blackmailer threatened to go public with the affair, the same Monroe admitted that she was in that calendar and that she had made this for a desperate need for money. At the time was not yet known to the general public.
Between 1950 and 1952 increased her roles in the movie.
"The Asphalt Jungle", "All about Eve", "The Fireball", "Hometown Story", "As Young as You Feel", "Clash by Night", some of her films.
In "Clash by Night", for the first time the name of Marilyn Monroe appeared in the film poster.
Some films of 1952 as "We're Not Married", "Don't Bother to Knock" and "Monkey Business" increased her fame.
1953 was the year of the consecration. Although, was not well received by critics, the film "Niagara", was characterized by the presence of Monroe, who played an evil character.
In the musical "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", is the antagonist of the brunette Jane Russell.
In the romantic comedy "How to Marry a Millionaire, plays the role of a mannequin with Lauren Bacall and Betty Grable.
In 1955 Billy Wilder chose her for one of the most famous comedies:
"The Seven Year Itch". A great success for the film, the director and for the same Monroe. But Marilyn had wanted to become a better actress, and so he decided to move to New York and attend the Actors Studio. She was tired of sex roles.
Darryl F. Zanuck (producer), did signed a contract to Marilyn, from which she can personally choose the director.
In "Bus Stop", plays the role of singer Cherie, getting her first Golden Globe nomination. But most striking was the criticism of Time, which said that Monroe in this film proves to be an actress.
Thanks to the new collaboration with Billy Wilder Marilyn gave her greatest performance in the masterpiece "Some Like it Hot" with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. The character of Sugar Kandiski did win the Golden Globe.
The critics praised Marilyn and Variety declares that no other can overcome the actress in this mixture of her own rhythm and sex-appeal. Despite this, the Academy Award in all these years was distracted enough to not even give her an Oscar nomination.
Her last film was "The Misfits" by John Huston, screenplay by Arthur Miller, whom she had just divorced.
Will remain forever unfinished "Something's Got to Give", a film that was to be the remake of "My Favorite Wife".
The last image is of a beautiful Marilyn as she leaves the pool.
She died in Los Angeles in August 1962.

There are many features of Marilyn, sexy, charming, innocent, child, fickle, in need of love, delicate.
A mixture which has created the myth MM, that after 50 years of her death, remains indelible in the collective.

Films in this video:
- Niagara
- Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
- How to Marry a Millionaire
- River of No Return
- The Seven Year Itch
- Bus Stop
- The Prince and the Showgirl
- Some Like It Hot
- Let's Make Love
- The Misfits

Song for this tribute is "One Moment in Time" by Whitney Houston.

Think about true romance, yeah

Tell me all the things that I wanna hear

That's what I like about you
That's what I like about you
That's what I like about you, wahhhhhh

Never wanna' let you go
Know you make me feel alright, yeah

Goo Goo Dolls - Iris

Rzeznik was approached to write a song for the City of Angels soundtrack, and the end product was "Iris". This song propelled the band to stardom, as it stayed on top of Billboard Hot 100 Airplay charts for a record-breaking 18 weeks, and was nominated for three Grammys that year. According to several interviews with Rzeznik, he was experiencing serious bouts of writer's block when he was approached, and was on the verge of quitting the band days before he wrote the song that would launch the band to worldwide fame.[10] Iris is set to re-enter the UK charts at number 1, following performances by two X-Factor finalists, which has helped to put the band back into the consciousness of the British public.

"Iris" was included on the triple-platinum Dizzy Up the Girl, and was among Top-Ten hits "Slide", "Black Balloon", "Broadway", and "Dizzy" from the same album. The new, polished sound garnered legions of new fans, many of whom had not followed the band before their mainstream success. Most of the Goo Goo Dolls concerts feature few, if any, songs the band wrote before 1995, reflecting the band's more mainstream sound. In 2001, the Goos released their first ever compilation CD, What I Learned About Ego, Opinion, Art & Commerce. Next, Gutterflower (2002) — the last longplay in spirit of America, with dark lyrical undertones from Rzeznik's divorce—achieved gold certification, producing the hits "Here Is Gone", "Sympathy", and "Big Machine". On July 4, 2004, the band performed a free concert in their hometown of Buffalo, continuing through a deluge of rain that can be seen on the DVD released later that year. The DVD also contained a studio version of the Goo Goo Dolls' cover of "Give a Little Bit" by Supertramp. The single reached the top of the Adult Top 40 chart in 2005.

Portrait Lighting for Photography and Video

There are several lighting positions that photographers have developed over the years. People like George Hurrell, who used tungsten to shoot stars, used these lighting positions. Learn to identify what a butterfly or Rembrandt light is.

Knowing these positions, and where the light placed to create them, will help you see how photographers light their images.

These are departure points from which you will create your own look and direction. Its hard to depart from someplace you have never been there. This will teach you the basics and give you a good foundation to build on.

This video is not as slick as some of the others we have done but it has great basic instructions on portrait lighting.

(Don't miss the ending its the most exciting part!)

Jack Johnson - Imagine - HD

Jack Johnson is an American folk rock singer-songwriter, surfer and musician known for his work in the soft rock and acoustic genres. In 2001, he achieved commercial success after the release of his debut album, Brushfire Fairytales. He has since released four more albums, a number of EPs and surfing movies/soundtracks. He is also known for organizing an annual event, the Kokua Festival. Notable songs from Johnson's repertoire include "Upside Down"; "Flake"; "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing"; "If I Had Eyes"; "You and Your Heart"; "Taylor"; "Banana Pancakes" and the widely-popular fan favorite, "Better Together".

Jack Johnson was born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. The son of well-known surfer Jeff Johnson, he took an interest in the sport. He began to learn how to surf at the age of 5. At 17, he became the youngest invitee to make the surfing finals at the Pipeline Masters on Oahu's north shore. One week later, however, his stint as a professional surfer ended when he suffered a surfing accident at the Pipeline that put more than 150 stitches in his forehead and removed a few of his teeth.

Jack Johnson graduated from Kahuku High School on the North Shore of Oahu. He would later attend the University of California, Santa Barbara and graduate with a degree in film. While Johnson learned the guitar at the age of 14 and started songwriting at the age of 16 , his passion for music grew when he played rhythm guitar for the band Soil (not to be confused with the heavy metal band of the same name) in college. Johnson credits his songwriting influences as Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Radiohead, Otis Redding, G. Love and Special Sauce, Ben Harper, Sublime, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Neil Young, and A Tribe Called Quest.

Led by singer Richard Butler and his brother Tim on bass guitar, the Psychedelic Furs are one of the many acts spawned from the British post-punk scene. Their music went through several phases, from an initially austere art rock sound, later touching on new wave and hard rock.

They scored several hits in their early career, but were launched to international attention in 1986 when the film director John Hughes borrowed their song title "Pretty in Pink" for his movie of the same name. A newly recorded version of the song became the Psychedlic Furs' biggest hit to that time. "Heartbreak Beat", from their 1987 album Midnight to Midnight, was to be the Furs' biggest Top 40 entry in the US.

The Psychedelic Furs went on hiatus in 1991, and the Butler brothers formed a new band called Love Spit Love. The Psychedelic Furs later regrouped in 2001 and continue to perform around the world.

"The Ghost in You" is a song by The Psychedelic Furs. It was written by Richard Butler and his brother Tim Butler, and later released in their album Mirror Moves. It was released as the second single from the album and charted in both the U.S. Pop charts (#59) and the UK Singles Chart (#68).

Cover versions have been later recorded and included on the soundtrack of popular films: By Counting Crows for the film Clueless By Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray for the film 50 First Dates

Robyn Hitchcock has also covered the song. Vernian Process covered it on their 2006 album Catalysts. Duncan Sheik has covered the song on his 2009 album Whisper House and again in 2011's Covers 80's, as well as BT for his 2010 album These Hopeful Machines. Steve Hogarth from Marillion has covered it a few times in his h Natural shows, and it's on the first of the h Natural DVDs.

The Rolling Stones - Wild Horses (video slideshow)

In the liner notes to the 1993 Rolling Stones collection Jump Back: The Best of The Rolling Stones, Jagger states, "Everyone always says this was written about Marianne but I don't think it was; that was all well over by then. But I was definitely very inside this piece emotionally." Keith Richards wrote the melody and came up with the phrase "Wild Horses".

Originally recorded over a three day period at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama during 2--4 December 1969, the song was not released until over a year later due to legal wranglings with the band's former label.[citation needed] Along with "Brown Sugar", it is one of the two Rolling Stones compositions from Sticky Fingers over which Allen Klein co-owns the rights along with the Stones. It features session player Jim Dickinson on piano, Keith Richards on electric guitar, and Richards and Mick Taylor on acoustic guitars. Keith Richards uses Nashville Tuning, in which the EADG strings of the acoustic guitar are replaced by strings which are tuned one octave higher. Ian Stewart was present at the session, but refused to perform the piano part on the track due to the prevalence of minor chords, which he disliked playing.

In 2007, Mick Jagger's ex-wife, Jerry Hall, named "Wild Horses" as her favourite Rolling Stones song.

How to Blur Action Shots for the Impression of Speed

Full guide at:

http://www.dslrtips.com/workshops/How_to_blur_action_photos/panning_action_photo.shtml

Checklist: How to blur action shots

1: Switch your camera to Shutter Priority mode by turning the mode dial to ‘S’ or on Canon models, ‘Tv’.

2: Choose a slower shutter speed which will blur the action. 1/60 is a good starting point.

3: Follow the subject through the viewfinder as you take the picture. Make sure you keep moving the camera as you press the button.

4: If the background isn’t sufficiently blurred, choose a slower shutter, such as 1/30 or 1/15. If the action is too blurred, choose a faster shutter like 1/125.

5: After taking your photo, remember to set the mode dial back to Auto or Program (P) mode.

Watch Out!

1: If your camera or lens has anti-shake facilities, they might get confused by the panning motion. Some models have a special setting for panning. Other, newer models, can automatically detect panning. Check your manual, but if yours has neither, it’s best to switch the anti-shake off while taking these kind of photos.

Fine Art Photography by Michael Flasch - Dance of the Muses

The Photography of Michael Flasch - Part Dance - Part Sculpture - Part Athletics - Michael Flasch captures the muses with patterns, light and lens. At over 60 years of age Michael Flasch has studied art throughout his life, leaving painting and moving into the realm of artistic photography Michael follows his muse. Somewhat "transient" by nature and a Vietnam veteran and lover of life, Michael was born in rural Wisconsin growing up among cows and corn in the '50s, now world traveled and world weary, Mr. Flasch finds his expression in creating intriguing images with the magic of light and cameras. Bordering on "Eroticism" his work reflects those of ancient Greek and Roman images while staying abstract and contemporay. You can almost see his models as modern dancers, yet quite still as carved or molded sculupture. His photo play with light and poses draws your attention to constantly changing points on the image as your eyes try to define and descern.

The Mood & Relationship Between Photographer & Model Means Everything

I've always stressed that a good working relationship - and mood - between the photographer and model means the difference between great and just good photos!

I'm going to present some photoshoot examples which I believe illustrate this point. All are extremely beautiful and talented models, but I believe you'll be able to easily notice the differences in the way the models pose.

I will let the slideshows speak for themselves. Be sure to pay special attention to the models facial expressions. When I look at photos from a shoot, I can notice right away the relationship between the photographer and model - even watch the moods progress and change as the shoot goes on.

I want to stress that all the example photos are great, but you should be able to notice the differences. It all boils down to photos that come alive - that show emotions.

The first is of Ella:

The next is Molly:

The next is Diana:

And the final example is Linde:

I always stress a good working relationship between model and photographer, and even if it's an on location first time meet, it pays off to take the time to get to know each other and - ABOVE ALL ELSE - to become comfortable and work together as far as what to expect from the shoot!
