Playwright Arthur Miller, June 25, 1956; divorced: Jan 24 1961

Quotes:

"I've been on a calendar, but never on Time."

"I learned to walk as a baby and I haven't had a lesson since."

"When you're a failure in Hollywood, that's like starving to death outside a banquet hall, with smells of filet mignon driving you crazy."

"Well behaved women rarely make history."

"He [Arthur Miller] wouldn't have married me if I had been nothing but a dumb blonde."

"Suicide is a person's privilege. I don't believe it's a sin or a crime. It's your right if you want to, though it doesn't get you anywhere."

"With fame, you know, you can read about yourself, somebody else's ideas about you, but what's important is how you feel about yourself--for survival and living day to day with what comes up."

"I think if other girls know how bad I was when I started they'll be encouraged. I finally made up my mind I wanted to be an actress and I was not going to let my lack of confidence ruin my chances."

"I don't forgive people because I'm weak, I forgive them because I am strong enough to know people make mistakes."

"A career is wonderful, but you can't curl up with it on a cold night."

"My husband and I hardly spoke to each other. This wasn't because we were angry. We had nothing to say."

"No one ever told me I was pretty when I was a little girl. All little girls should be told they're pretty, even if they aren't."

"I don't know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot."

"People had a habit of looking at me as if I were some kind of mirror instead of a person. They didn't see me, they saw their own lewd thoughts, then they white-masked themselves by calling me the lewd one."

"Sex is a part of nature. I go along with nature."

"If I play a stupid girl, and ask a stupid question, I've got to follow it through. What am I supposed to do, look intelligent?"

"I feel as though it's all happening to someone right next to me. I'm close, I can feel it, I can hear it, but it isn't really me."

"Men who think that a woman's past love affairs lessen her love for them are usually stupid and weak. A woman can bring a new love to each man she loves, providing there are not too many."

"It's better to be unhappy alone than unhappy with someone - so far."

"It's all make believe, isn't it?"

"People ask me if I am going on making cheesecake pictures now that I'm a star. My answer is that as long as there is a boy in Korea who wants a pinup of me, I'll go on posing for them."

"It stirs up envy, fame does. People...feel fame gives them some kind of privilege to walk up to you and say anything to you--and it won't hurt your feelings--like it's happening to your clothing."

"I'm going to be a great movie star someday."

"I kept driving past the theatre with my name on the marquee. Was I excited. I wished they were using 'Norma Jeane' so that all the kids at the homes and schools who never noticed me could see it."

"Dreaming about being an actress, is more exciting than being one."

"A wise girl kisses but doesn't love, listens but doesn't believe, leaves before she is left and forgets before she is forgotten."

"Dogs have never hurt me. Only men have."

"I always felt I was nobody and the only way for me to be somebody was to be... well, somebody else."

"Ever notice that 'What the hell' is always the right decision?"

"I don't mind making jokes, but I don't want to look like one."

"I used to think as I looked out on the Hollywood night, 'There must be thousands of girls sitting alone like me, dreaming of becoming a movie star. But I'm not going to worry about them. I'm dreaming the hardest."

"An actress is not a machine, but they treat you like a machine; a money machine."

"It is better to be absolutely ridiculous then absolutely boring."

"I am good, but not an angel. I do sin, but I am not the devil. I am pretty, but not beautiful. I have friends, but I am not the peacemaker. I am just a small girl in a big world trying to find someone to love."

"It's often just enough to be with someone. I don't need to touch them. Not even talk. A feeling passes between you both. You're not alone."

A Closer Look at the 1DX at CES 2012 (in full hd)

The Canon EOS-1D X is the latest in the company's professional range of DSLRs. Its job is to replace both the sports-orientated 1D series and the high-resolution, studio-focused 1DS range of cameras. As is usual for upgrades in this class of camera, the changes are incremental and subtle but aim to raise the bar of what is possible.

The biggest specification change to the 1D X is its new sensor - an 18MP full-frame CMOS chip capable of shooting at 12 frames per second. This represents a big change over the 1D Mk IV (it represents a move away from the smaller APS-H format that Canon has previously used in its sports cameras), and a decrease in pixel count compared to the 1DS series. However, as Rick Berk, Technical Specialist in Canon USA's Pro Engineering and Solutions Division says: 'there's more to image quality than just resolution.'

The move from APS-H up to full-frame is enabled by a sensor with faster data readout explains Chuck Westfall, Technical Advisor in Canon USA's Pro Engineering and Solutions Division: 'The new sensor has 16-channel, dual line readout, compared to 8-channel, single line designs in the previous generation of chips.' This lets the company offer a large sensor (and the low-light capability that brings) for 1DS users, with the fast capture speeds that current 1D Mk IV users need. 'It's clear the time has come for the 1DX to replace the whole 1D series,' says Westfall.

Under the skin, the big change is the more sophisticated metering sensor. A move from the 1D Mk IV's sensor to a new 100,000 pixel unit affords the camera a much better understanding of the scene and this information is fed into the camera's autofocus system to improve the quality of its AF tracking. This isn't a new idea (Nikon's sports cameras have done something similar for several generations), but it's a sensible way of improving what's already an impressive system.
Autofocus changes

The other big change to autofocus is simpler configuration. The 1D X does away with the complex inter-related network of custom settings that defined AF behavior in previous models, instead offering six presets for different shooting situations (see table below). Each of these can be adjusted for 'Tracking sensitivity' (which defines how doggedly the camera attempts to stick with the originally chosen target or whether it will re-focus on nearer subjects if they cross in front of the target), 'Acceleration/Deceleration tracking' and AF point auto selection (how readily the camera should move off the selected AF point).

Westfall acknowledges the complexity of the previous systems could prevent users getting the most out of previous cameras: 'A common response to the 1D III and 1D IV was that people loved the idea of a high spec AF system but they wanted an easier way of get the most out of it. The improvements from the 1D III to the 1D IV were substantial but also incremental - to make a bigger step forward this time we needed to start from scratch.'

In addition to making the system more accessible, the 1D X has the first entirely new AF arrangement since the launch of the (film-era) EOS 3 in 1998. The new 61-point AF sensor has 21 cross type AF points at the center, which are sensitive enough to be used with lenses with maximum apertures as slow as F5.6. The central five of those points also have diagonal AF elements that are active with F2.8-and-faster lenses. All other AF points are sensitive to horizontal detail with lenses faster than F5.6, while 20 of these (in two flanks towards the outer edges of the sensor), act as cross-type points with F4 maximum aperture lenses or faster.

As with the EOS 7D, the AF point selection can be narrowed-down to a series of sub-sets of local AF points. It's also possible to adjust what factors are considered during AF tracking: AF info only, AF and color information or AF and face detection information.
Getting a sense for the sensor

When asked to for the biggest improvement in the new camera, Westfall stresses that every aspect of the camera has been re-assessed but finally concludes: 'If you had to highlight just one thing, I'd say the sensor. It's a new level for us in terms of image quality.'

'There's a couple of things that we consider when we think about IQ: number one on this sensor is noise. It's clear the noise level is better than in the 1D Mk IV or the 1DS III. The pixel size is larger than in the 1DS III or 5D Mark II (6.95 microns, versus 6.4) and the difference is even more striking compared to the 5.7 micron pixels in the 1D Mark IV. That helps us in terms of light capturing ability and increases the signal to noise ratio. In turn, that does nothing but help the dynamic range of the camera.'

And its this improvement in image quality that Westfall believes will make the 1D X appeal to 1DS as well as 1D users. 'I think the factor that's going to make that a reality is the noise level is better than anything we've seen before. With cleaner images, people are going to feel much more comfortable up-rezing an image. Not many people need a 21MP file to begin with, so they're going to love the IQ of this camera and the quality's good enough that those people who do need those huge files will find the images clean enough to use them.'

Processing power

As you'd expect, the camera's processing has received a considerable refresh, Westfall explains: 'You've got dual Digic 5+ processors, which our engineers are telling us are 17x faster than the Digic 4s used in the existing models.' In addition, the metering sensor, given its added complexity and the need to interpret its output to feed into the AF system, gets its own Digic 4 processor.

This processing power allows the camera to conduct a wider range of lens corrections. In addition to the vignetting correction that could be conducted by the 1D Mark IV, lens profiles can be uploaded using EOS utility and the camera will correct for geometric distortion and chromatic aberration (both lateral and axial) in real-time. These corrections are all optional and can be engaged separately.

Another benefit of more processing power, combined with an improved sensor is an expansion of ISO range, says Westfall: 'The ISO range on this camera, just the standard range, goes from 12,800 on the 1D Mark IV and 1600 on the 1DS Mark III, up to 51,200. And this can be expanded up to 204,800 - that's going to be an enabler of all sorts of new possibilities for a lot of people.'

The final processing option is the ability to shoot multiple exposure images. Four combination methods are available, which can be used to create composite images either from consecutive shots or from an existing Raw file and an additional exposure.
All about speed

The faster sensor and greater processing power are combined with a new carbon fibre shutter and revised mirror mechanism to allow 12 frame per second continuous shooting. The camera can shoot at 14fps if you're happy to lock the mirror up (and hence lock focus), and capture only JPEG images. The shutter has a rated lifespan of 400,000 cycles (a 30% improvement on before, despite the additional demands of the faster continuous shooting). The company also says it should be more accurate at high shutter speeds. It also offers an X-sync speed up to 1/250th of a second.

At first, the move from 10 to 12 frames per second doesn't sound terribly impressive - until you remember that the camera is now based around a larger sensor, so there's a much bigger mirror to move. Westfall is keen to stress this: 'The high-speed rate is greatly improved. Our full-frame cameras up until now have only been able to offer up to five frames per second, whereas this can shoot at 12fps, or 14 if you're willing to shoot JPEG. The 1D X means you can have full-frame quality and high speed.'

In the frame to be flagship

Of course it's no longer enough for a camera at this level to just be able to shoot stills, and the EOS-1D X is Canon's most capable movie shooter yet. Although the headline spec (1080p at 30, 25 or 24 frames per second), isn't exactly groundbreaking, it's clear that Canon has had movie shooters in mind.

The 1D X offers two compression options, including 'All-I,' a very low compression format that offers high image quality and editability but at the cost of immense files (a 16Gb card will hold around 6 minutes of footage). The alternative is a more standard IPB compression that takes up around 1/12th of the space. To prevent these large files limiting the camera, the 1D X is the first Canon to be able to split a single piece of footage into multiple files, overcoming the 4Gb limit of the card file system, and allowing videos of up to 29 minutes, 59 seconds to be recorded.

In addition the camera can keep track of how long it has been recording, using standard timecoding methods. There's also greater-than-ever control over the microphone input volume, with 64 manually selectable levels, auto and a wind-cut filter. It's also possible to mute sound recording while shooting.

Westfall believes the 1D X has the features that pro shooters will want: 'I think people are looking for a balance between cost and performance - the cameras offering 60P at the kind of bit rates that we can offer tend to be in a higher price bracket. And we can offer 720p at 60 frames per second,' he says.

'People we're dealing with are tending towards using 24 - to match the filmic look. There are cameras offering 60P in the consumer market but they haven't got the bit rate we're offereing. Many of them are limited to less than 30mbps while we're bumping up against 50. This is a clear difference - we think this product keeps moving the ball forward. With this product the focus was improving the compression. The other thing people were requesting was the ability to shoot longer clips and on this model we can shoot for up to nearly 30 minutes.'

'Within this range of products we offer, this is going to assume the flagship postition,' he says: 'It will be the most desirable product for people wanting movie shooting in a DSLR.'
Any other business

Beyond the big changes is a move to twin CF cards. As before these can either be set to duplicate images onto both cards or overflow from one to the next. You don't have the option of separately storing movies and stills, however. The upgrades to the camera also extend to a revised dust-reduction system for the sensor. The wave-motion of the shake system is being called 2nd generation dust prevention by Canon.

Another change to the 1D X's storage is the addition of an Ethernet 1000 Base-T network port. This allows faster transfer speeds and the use of longer cables (the limit is 100m, rather than around 3.5m for USB).

The final significant change is another gain from the EOS 7D - an electronic overlay on the viewfinder, allowing AF points and the level gauge to be shown in the viewfinder. Other than that, the camera retains essentially the same viewfinder specs as the 1DS Mark III - a huge 0.76x, 100% coverage pentaprism that 1DS users will be familiar with and 1D series owners will really appreciate after years of using cropped APS-H finders.

Al Green - How Can You Mend A Broken Heart (music video) (lyrics)

I can think of younger days when living for my life
Was everything a man could want to do
I could never see tomorrow, but I was never told about the sorrow

And how can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining?
What makes the world go round?
How can you mend a this broken man?
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again

I can still feel the breeze that rustles through the trees
And misty memories of days gone by
We could never see tomorrow, no one said a word about the sorrow

And how can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining?
What makes the world go round?
How can you mend this broken man?
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again

Kate Rusby - Broken Hearted I Will Wander (music video) (lyrics)

When Boney he commanded his army to stand
He levelled his cannon all over the land
He levelled his cannon his victory to claim
And he slew my light Horseman on his way going haim

So broken-heated I will wander, broken-heated I'll remain
For the loss of my lover, in the wars he was slain
Broken-hearted I will wander, broken-heated I'll remain
He is my Bonnie Light Horseman, in the wars he was slain

The dame she laments for her man she will fly
Oh where, tell me where is my darling she cries
And where in this wide world is there one to compare
To my Bonnie Light Horseman who was lost in the war

So broken-hearted I will wander, broken-hearted I'll remain
For the loss of my lover, in the wars he was slain
Broken-hearted I will wander, broken-heated I'll remain
He is my Bonnie Light Horseman, in the wars he was slain

Oh and if I were a small bird and had wings to fly
I would fly o'er the salt seas to where my love doth lie
And with my fond wings I'll beat over the grave
And I'd kiss the pale lips laying cold in the clay

So broken-hearted I will wander, broken-hearted I'll remain
For the loss of my lover, in the wars he was slain
Broken-hearted I will wander, broken-hearted I'll remain
He was my Bonnie Light Horseman, in the wars he was slain

Sioux Indian Traditional Song - AIM

On September 13, 2007 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the "Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples." There were 144 states or countries that voted in fair. Four voted against it while 11 countries/states abstained.
Those four that voted against it were the UNITED STATES, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Their main reason for voting against it was because they felt as if it "goes too far." The importance of this Declaration is that the Indigenous Peoples have the chance to have their rights recognized.
Some of their rights include rights to self-determination, traditional lands and territories, traditional languages and customs, natural resources and sacred sites

Brother Iz - Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World

His full name was Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, but almost everyone called him “Iz” or “Bruddah Iz” (“Bruddah” being pidgin for “Brother”). A gentle giant who at one point weighed more than 750 pounds, he is responsible for the all-time best-selling record by a Hawaiian artist—a simple but haunting voice-and-ukulele medley of two standards, one from the 1930s and the other from the 1960s: Howard Arlen and E.Y. Harburg’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” written for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, was most famously sung by Judy Garland; and Bob Thiele and George D. Weiss’ “What a Wonderful World” was a late-life hit for Louis Armstrong in 1968 when it hit Number One on the UK singles chart, and then was a posthumous Top 10 success in the U.S. following Armstrong’s death in 1971. Iz’s version first appeared on his 1993 album, Facing Future, which went on to become the first Hawaiian album to top 1 million in U.S. sales, and the single was a hit in a number of other countries and has had an extraordinary life the past few years as a digital download, with more than two million copies sold. It has also been featured in several films, TV shows and commercials.

z was born in Honolulu in 1959 and grew up in the Kaimuki area of the city (north of Diamond Head crater). He first started playing music at the age of 11 with his older brother, Skippy. When Iz’s parents took jobs working at a Waikiki music club called Steamboats (in non-musical capacities) in the early ’70s, the brothers became even more fascinated by Hawaiian folk music, which was enjoying a serious renaissance on the Islands around that time, thanks to acts like the highly influential Sons of Hawaii (who had a weekly gig at Steamboats), the Sunday Manoa and many others.

As a young teen, Iz was sometimes called up onstage to play ukulele and sing with the greats who passed through the club. Even at a young age he was very large; in fact, it ran in the family—his father was one of those enormous guys who got nicknamed “Tiny,” and Skippy was also very heavy. As nearly full-blooded native Hawaiians (rare today; Hawaii has truly been a melting pot), the Kamakawiwo’ole family embraced the newfound pride in the Hawaiian language and the old music of the Islands, and later, Iz would be quite vocal in his support of the Hawaiian sovereignty movement.

In 1973, when Iz was 14, the family moved to Makaha, a sleepy but beautiful white-sand beach community on the western shore of Oahu, and it was there that both Iz and Skippy started their first serious musical endeavor: a five-piece traditional group called the Makaha Sons of Ni’ihau. Formed in 1976, they quickly became one of the most popular groups in the Islands, playing a mix of songs in Hawaiian dating back to Queen Liliuokalani, hapa haole (half-white) tunes and a few more modern songs in both English and Hawaiian. The original version of the band lasted until 1982, when Skippy died of a heart attack at the age of just 28. Iz and the others soldiered on; though by the late ’80s, Iz was increasingly having weight-related health problems himself, which, coupled with his abuse of both hard drugs and alcohol, made him an occasionally unreliable bandmember. He also had “issues” with the group’s management, which led to his eventual departure to become a solo act in the early ’90s.

The story of this “Classic Track” begins on a night in 1988, with an engineer named Milan Bertosa. The Chicago native had been active in Windy City recording for a number of years—based out of Tanglewood Recording, among other studios—but by 1987 he was looking for a change of pace. So he and a partner packed up their equipment and moved to Hawaii and opened what immediately became a top facility in the state, Audio Resources Honolulu. Bertosa had only been in Hawaii a few months when he got a fateful telephone call one night:

“I’d just finished this hellish session with a girl group, recording one syllable at a time for hours, and I’m wrapping cables when the phone rings. It’s 3:30 in the morning and all I want to do is go home, but there’s this jacked-up client who I’ve been doing some work with saying, ‘I’m at this club called Sparky’s with this guy named Israel Kaloka-loka-loka-loka-loka’—I had no idea what the name was—‘and he wants to come and do a demo right now.’ I’m like, ‘I’d be happy to record him; call me tomorrow.’ He says, ‘No, no!’ and then he puts Iz on the phone, and he’s got this soft voice and he’s really polite and really sweet, kind of the embodiment of what a nice Hawaiian person is like. I finally say, ‘Okay, you’ve got 15 minutes to get here. When you get here, you’ve got a half-hour and then it’ll be 4:30 and I’m done.’

“So he shows up—biggest human being I’ve ever met. And we record the songs ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ and ‘What a Wonderful World,’ just Iz and his uke, two mics, one take. Beautiful. The other song he recorded that night was called ‘White Sandy Beach’ and he overdubbed another uke, so that was three tracks.

“I recorded dry to 2-inch 24-track tape on an MCI JH-24 or JH-16, through the studio’s Harrison MR4. The mics were Neumann KM84s, one on uke about a foot above the instrument, up the neck a little [so it wasn’t pointing directly at the sound hole and picking up what Bertosa calls the ukulele’s characteristic “bark note”], one on vox. Mic pre’s were in the Harrison MR4. EQ was minimal—maybe a light boost above 10k, highpass to get rid of unnecessary subs and most likely a small dip around 400 Hz on the uke mic. I may have used a UREI LA-4 on the vocal mic going to tape. I mixed the next morning using a blue Orban stereo compressor with an Idle function that kept the breaths from being sucked up too much. Reverb was courtesy of a Klark-Teknik DN780, which was a great digital box.” Bertosa mixed to both ¼-inch analog and Sony 2500 DAT, “and then the 2-inch tape was wiped—after all, it was just a demo! Doh!,” he says with a laugh. “I believe that the version that went to mastering [years later] was the DAT.”

The tape sat in Audio Resources’ storage library for five years before it was used. In the meantime, Iz launched his solo career (while still maintaining ties with the Makaha Sons for a while) with an eclectic 1990 album called Ka ’Ano’i, which actually included a version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World,” but done in a fully produced “Jawaiian” style—a blend of reggae and Hawaiian that has long been extremely popular in the Islands.

It wasn’t until 1992, when Iz went into Audio Resources with Bertosa and Mountain Apple Records producer Jon De Mello to make a second album—Facing Future—that the idea surfaced to use the old demo recording, as is. The medley’s beauty lay in its simplicity: Iz’s soaring tenor sounds vulnerable yet optimistic; the recording is intimate—you can even hear the light clicking of Iz’s fingernails on the ukulele’s strings and soundboard. At the top of the song he quietly dedicates the tune to Hawaiian folk music legend (and sometime member of the Sons of Hawaii) Gabby Pahinui.

Released in 1993, Facing Future was an immediate smash in Hawaii, with several different tunes from the disc dominating the local airwaves for months, including the “Rainbow/Wonderful World” medley, a tune associated with the Makaha Sons called “Hawaii ’78,” and Iz’s wonderful Jawaiian take (via Toots Hibbert’s reggae version) on John Denver’s “Take Me Home Country Road,” which has “west Makaha” substituting for “West Virginia.”

Alas, Iz’s soaring weight eventually killed him—he died of heart failure in 1997 at age 37. However, as occasionally happens, death was just the beginning for what has become a superstar career. He was already lionized in Hawaii, and then, slowly but surely, his music started spreading eastward. “Rainbow/Wonderful World” was used in a national TV commercial for eToys, and then was picked up for the soundtracks of Meet Joe Black (1998) and Finding Forrester (2000), and later appeared prominently on a key episode of the hit TV series ER and in the soundtrack for the romantic comedy movie 50 First Dates (2004). Soon it became a top-selling digital track, which led to its re-release as a single and more TV and commercial uses.

Not bad for a 15-minute session. “After that 15 minutes,” says Bertosa, who has worked on recent albums with uke phenom Jake Shimabukuro. “I was thinking, ‘This is what I’m supposed to be doing for a living; not that other stuff, one syllable at a time.”

van morrison - so quiet in here (lyrics)

Foghorns blowing in the night
Salt sea air in the morning breeze
Driving cars all along the coastline
This must be what it's all about
Oh this must be what it's all about
This must be what paradise is like
So quiet in here, so peaceful in here
So quiet in here, so peaceful in here
The warm look of radiance on your face
And your heart beating close to mine
And the evening fading in the candle glow
This must be what it's all about
Oh this must be what it's all about
This must be what paradise is like
So quiet in here. so peaceful in here
So quiet in here, yeah, so peaceful in here
All my struggling in the world
And so many dreams that don't come true
Step back, put it all away
It don't matter, it don't matter anymore
Oh this must be what paradise is like
This must be what paradise is like
It's so quiet in here, so peaceful in here
It's so quiet in here, so peaceful in here
A glass of wine with some friends
Talking into the wee hours of the dawn
Sit back and relax your mind
This must be, this must be, what it's all about
This must be what paradise is like
Oh this must be what paradise is like
So quiet in here, so peaceful in here
So quiet in here, so peaceful in here
Big ships out in the night
And we're floating across the waves
Sailing for some other shore
Where we can be what we wanna be
Oh this must be what paradise is like
This must be what paradise is like
Baby it's so quiet in here, so peaceful in here
So quiet in here, so peaceful in here
So quiet in here, so peaceful in here
So quiet in here, you can hear, it's so quiet

John Lennon - Imagine (video slideshow)

Interpersonal love refers to love between human beings. It is a more potent sentiment than a simple liking for another. Unrequited love refers to those feelings of love that are not reciprocated. Interpersonal love is most closely associated with interpersonal relationships. Such love might exist between family members, friends, and couples.

Throughout history, philosophy and religion have done the most speculation on the phenomenon of love. In the last century, the science of psychology has written a great deal on the subject. In recent years, the sciences of evolutionary psychology, evolutionary biology, anthropology, neuroscience, and biology have added to the understanding of the nature and function of love.

Like all of the relatively new talent I promote, they all need your support! I want you to know that the only benefit I get out of promoting these artists is to help truly talented artists find their well-earned - and deserved - success in an industry that has truly went to the dogs - as far as making decisions with their pocket books instead of their hearts and souls!!!

So, if you like an undiscovered musician - put the word out! And let them know what you think!!!

Macy Maloy Original- "Love Letter"

like it when you send me running but I end up not knowing where I'm going and,
I try to look but my thoughts start flowing I, swerve to the right but the left is still going.

People say that it's best not knowing but is she a friend or more than you're showing me,
I don't like all these mixed emotions when you hear my voiceis your face still glowing?

I do not want to be alone, no
What does it take to feel at home?

Send it in a love letter, write it down so I remember.
Send it in a love letter, send your heart so I feel better...
oh oh oh oh oh oh, oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh, oh

I never meant to push you away,
but then again I don't want to be played here.
I dont want to stand in your way,
you gonna spin me around or spin me away?

I do not want to be alone, no
What does it take to feel at home?

Send it in a love letter, write it down so I remember.
Send it in a love letter, send your heart so I feel better...
oh oh oh oh oh oh, oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh, oh

Send it in a love letter, write it down so I remember.
Send it in a love letter, send your heart so I feel better...
oh oh oh oh oh oh, oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh, oh

I do not want to be alone, no

Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston - When You Believe

"When You Believe" is an Academy Award-winning song by American recording artists Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. The song was written and composed by Stephen Schwartz for the 1998 DreamWorks animated feature The Prince of Egypt. A version of "When You Believe" was produced as a single with additional music by writer-producer Babyface for the film's soundtrack album. Additionally, the song was featured on Houston's fourth studio album, My Love Is Your Love and Carey's first compilation album, Number 1's. The song was described as a big ballad, with meaningful and inspirational lyrics, describing the ability each person has to achieve miracles when they reach out to God and believe.

The song received generally mixed reviews from contemporary music critics. "When You Believe" experienced moderate success on the US Billboard charts, peaking at only number fifteen on the Hot 100, despite heavy media attention and live promotion. The song however, achieved strong charting throughout Europe and other worldwide regions, peaking within the top five in Belgium, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Due to strong single sales in Europe and the US, the song was received various certification awards throughout many major music markets.

"When You Believe" was awarded the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 71st annual ceremony on March 21, 1999. Prior to their performance of the song that night, Schwartz left Babyface's name off the nomination submission sheet. He felt that because the additions Babyface added to the song weren't featured in the actual film version, he didn't deserve writing credits. However, while Babyface did not receive the Oscar, Carey and Houston performed his version of the song, because they were more familiar with it than the one in the film. Prior to their performance at the Academy Awards, they sang it on November 26, 1998 on The Oprah Winfrey Show, promoting the song, as well as both their albums.

The song featured two music videos. The first and most commonly seen video was filmed at Brooklyn Academy of Music performing arts center. The video features both females, and begins with Houston and Carey performing in a large auditorium, giving the allusion of a concert. Towards the end of the video, clips of the film are projected onto a large screen at the concert, whole they belt out the final verse. The alternate video features a similar synopsis, with both singers performing on a large stage an old Egyptian pyramid. The main difference however, is the fact that no film clips are played in the video and there is no audience present.

Peter Bjorn och John - Young Folks (bnw glamour slideshow)

"Young Folks" is the first single from Peter Bjorn and John's third album, Writer's Block (released in 2006). The single features Victoria Bergsman of The Concretes as a guest vocalist.

A Long December (ne033x video slideshow)

A long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember the last thing that you said as you were leavin'
Now the days go by so fast

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think that I could be forgiven...I wish you would

The smell of hospitals in winter
And the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters, but no pearls
All at once you look across a crowded room
To see the way that light attaches to a girl

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think you might come to California...I think you should

Drove up to Hillside Manor sometime after two a.m.
And talked a little while about the year
I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower,
Makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her

And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember all the times I tried to tell my myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass

And it's one more day up in the canyon
And it's one more night in Hollywood
It's been so long since I've seen the ocean...I guess I should

Christina Aguilera - Beautiful (video slideshow + lyrics)

(Don't look at me)

Everyday is so wonderful
And suddenly, it's hard to breathe
Now and then, I get insecure
From all the pain,
I'm so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Trying hard to fill the emptiness,
The pieces gone,
Left the puzzle undone,
Ain't that the way it is?

You are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, no, no
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes words can't bring you down, oh, no
So don't you bring me down today

No matter what we do
(no matter what we do)
No matter what we say
(no matter what we say)
We're the song inside the tune
(yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Full of beautiful mistakes
And everywhere we go
(and everywhere we go)
The sun will always shine
(sun will always, always shine)
But tomorrow we might awake
On the other side

'Cause we are beautiful,
No matter what they say
Yes, words won't bring us down, oh no
We are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring us down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

Don't you bring me down today
Don't you bring me down...
Mmm, today

The Doors - The End (video slideshow) HD TRUE STEREO

Originally written by Jim Morrison as a song about breaking up with girlfriend Mary Werbelow, it evolved through months of performances at Los Angeles' Whisky a Go Go into a nearly 12-minute opus on their self-titled album. The band would perform the song to close their last set. It was first released in January 1967. The song was recorded live in the studio with no overdubbing.

"The End" was ranked at #336 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time (2010).

The song's guitar solo was ranked #93 on Guitar World's '100 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time'

In 1969, Morrison stated
" "Everytime I hear that song, it means something else to me. It started out as a simple good-bye song probably just to a girl, but I see how it could be a goodbye to a kind of childhood. I really don't know. I think it's sufficiently complex and universal in its imagery that it could be almost anything you want it to be." "

Shortly past the mid-point of the nearly 12-minute long album version, the song suddenly enters a spoken-word section with the words, "The killer awoke before dawn... " That section of the song reaches a dramatic climax with the lines, "Father/ Yes son?/ I want to kill you/ Mother, I want to... (fuck you)," (with the last two words screamed out unintelligibly).[citation needed] This is often considered a reference to the Oedipus complex. Ray Manzarek, the former keyboard player for the Doors explained: He was giving voice in a rock 'n' roll setting to the Oedipus complex, at the time a widely discussed tendency in Freudian psychology. He wasn't saying he wanted to do that to his own mom and dad. He was re-enacting a bit of Greek drama. It was theatre!

Producer Paul Rothchild said in an interview that he believed the song to be an inside trip, and that "kill the father" means destroying everything hierarchical, controlling, and restrictive in one's psyche, while "fuck the mother" means embracing everything that is expansive, flowing, and alive in the psyche.

Cockney Rebel - Make Me Smile (the happy slideshow)

Happiness is a very fuzzy concept and can mean many things to many people. Part of the challenge of the science of happiness is to identify all the different uses of the word "happiness", or else to understand its various components.

Studies have found that things like money, education, or the weather do not affect happiness the way one might expect. There are various habits that have been correlated with happiness. Psychologist Martin Seligman provides the acronym PERMA to summarize many of Positive Psychology's findings; humans seem happiest when they have Pleasure (tasty foods, warm baths, etc.), Engagement or (aka Flow, the absorption of an enjoyed yet challenging activity), Relationships (social ties have turned out to be extremely reliable indicator of happiness), Meaning (a perceived quest or belonging to something bigger), and finally Accomplishments (having realized tangible goals).

There is evidence suggesting that people can improve their happiness. Mood disorders like depression are often understood through a Biopsychosocial model, meaning biological, psychological, and social factors all contribute to mood (i.e. there is no single cause). The Diathesis-stress model further argues that a diathesis (a biological vulnerability- due to genes) to certain moods are worsened or improved by the environment and upbringing. The idea is that individuals with high vulnerability, especially if their early environment worsened depressive tendencies, may need Antidepressants. Furthermore, the model suggests that everyone can benefit, to varying degrees, from the various habits and practices identified by Positive psychology.

There has also been some studies of religion as it relates to happiness, as well as religious or generally philosophical notions of happiness. Research has generally found that religion may help make people happier by providing various important components (e.g. PERMA) in countries where there are many who share that religion.

David Bowie - The Man Who Sold the World (Warning Graphic)

"The Man Who Sold the World" is a song by David Bowie. It is the title track of his third album, released in the U.S. in November 1970 and in the UK in April 1971. The song has been covered by a number of other artists, notably by Lulu in 1974, and Nirvana in 1993.

The song's title is similar to that of Robert A. Heinlein's 1949 science fiction novella The Man Who Sold the Moon, with which Bowie was familiar.[However, the song has no similarities with the story of the book. The persona in the song has an encounter with a kind of doppelgänger, as is suggested in the second chorus where "I never lost control" is replaced with "We never lost control". Beyond this, the episode is unexplained: as James E. Perone wrote, Bowie encounters the title character, but it is not clear just what the phrase means, or exactly who this man is. ... The main thing that the song does is to paint — however elusively — the title character as another example of the societal outcasts who populate the album.

In common with a number of tracks on the album, the song's themes have been compared to the horror-fantasy works of H. P. Lovecraft. The lyrics are also cited as reflecting Bowie's concerns with splintered or multiple personalities, and are believed to have been partially inspired by the poem "Antigonish" by William Hughes Mearns:
" Last night I saw upon the stair
A little man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
Oh, how I wish he'd go away..."

THE ART OF DANCE

Dance is an art form that generally refers to movement of the body, usually rhythmic and to music, used as a form of expression, social interaction or presented in a spiritual or performance setting.

Dance may also be regarded as a form of nonverbal communication between humans, and is also performed by other animals (bee dance, patterns of behaviour such as a mating dance). Gymnastics, figure skating and synchronized swimming are sports that incorporate dance, while martial arts kata are often compared to dances. Motion in ordinarily inanimate objects may also be described as dances (the leaves danced in the wind).

Definitions of what constitutes dance are dependent on social, cultural, aesthetic, artistic and moral constraints and range from functional movement (such as folk dance) to virtuoso techniques such as ballet. Dance can be participatory, social or performed for an audience. It can also be ceremonial, competitive or erotic. Dance movements may be without significance in themselves, such as in ballet or European folk dance, or have a gestural vocabulary/symbolic system as in many Asian dances. Dance can embody or express ideas, emotions or tell a story.

Dancing has evolved many styles. Breakdancing and Krumping are related to the hip hop culture. African dance is interpretative. Ballet, Ballroom, Waltz, and Tango are classical styles of dance while Square and the Electric Slide are forms of step dances.

Every dance, no matter what style, has something in common. It not only involves flexibility and body movement, but also physics. If the proper physics is not taken into consideration, injuries may occur.

Choreography is the art of creating dances. The person who creates (i.e., choreographs) a dance is known as the choreographer.

Fool's Garden - Lemon Tree (video slideshow)

"Lemon Tree" is a song by German britpop band Fool's Garden from the album Dish of the Day, which was released as a single in 1995 and became a major international hit in 1996. The single reached number 26 in the UK charts and remained at number one for several weeks in Germany. It also reached number one in Ireland, where Dustin the Turkey recorded a parody called "Christmas Tree".Taiwanese singer Tarcy Su (in both Mandarin & Cantonese) released covers of the song as did Korean singer Park Hye Kyung.

The band recorded a new version of the song in prior for their 2009 release High Times - The Best of Fools Garden. The singles "Wild Days" and "Suzy" were also re-recorded for this album.

Blood, Sweat & Tears - And When I Die (video slideshow)

"And When I Die" is a song written by American singer Laura Nyro. It was first recorded by American folk group Peter, Paul and Mary in 1966. Nyro then recorded it on her 1968 debut album More Than a New Discovery. However, the song is best known for its cover version by American rock group Blood, Sweat & Tears, which reached #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100

"And When I Die" was one of the first songs written by Nyro, written when she was 17 years old. She then sold the song to folk group Peter, Paul and Mary for $5000, who then recorded the song for their sixth studio album The Peter, Paul and Mary Album.

Later, the song was covered by American rock group Blood, Sweat & Tears for their self-titled second album and was eventually released as the third single from the album, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100; the album's previous two singles had also stalled at #2 on the Hot 100.

Creed - My Sacrifice (Military Memorial Video)

"My Sacrifice" is a single and Grammy nominated song released by the American post-grunge band Creed on their album Weathered in 2001. The song peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart on February 9, 2002, and #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for 9 consecutive weeks, starting in December 2001. It was featured in a series of promotional tribute videos made by World Wrestling Entertainment, detailing what the then-World Wrestling Federation Superstars went through. The promo videos ended in February 2002. The song was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 2003.

Scorpions - Still Loving You (video slideshow)

"Still Loving You" is a song of Scorpions from their 1984 album Love at First Sting. It was the second single of the album, reaching #64 on Billboard Hot 100. In France, the single sold 1.7 million copies. The music video was released in July 1984,and was filmed in Dallas, Texas at Reunion Arena.

In an interview with Songfacts, Rudolf Schenker explained "It's a story about a love affair where they recognized it may be over, but let's try again."
The song is also considered a thinly veiled metaphor for a still divided Eastern & Western Germany. "Your pride has built a wall so strong that I can't get through, is there really no chance to start once again?" "only love can break down the walls someday" and "Yes I've hurt your pride and I know what you've been through, you should give me a chance, this can't be the end, I'm still loving you" were clear references to the Berlin Wall and the despair many Germans felt about their divided homeland.

A remixed version of the studio album version was included on the album Still Loving You in 1992. The remixed version was also released as a single in Germany and some other European countries. The band has also re-recorded the song twice, with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000 for the album Moment of Glory and an acoustic re-working for the album Acoustica in 2001.

Junior Wells - Mystery Train (Historical Photos Slideshow)

"Mystery Train" is a song written by Junior Parker and Sam Phillips. It was first recorded in Phillip's Memphis Recording Service and Sun Records at 706 Union Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee in 1953. Raymond Hill plays tenor sax and Matt Murphy plays lead guitar with Bill Johnson on piano, Pat Hare on rhythm guitar, and John Bowers on drums. The band was listed on the label as Little Junior's Blue Flames. "Mystery Train" and "Love My Baby" were released late in 1953 on Sun #192, and from the beginning the sound and feel of "Train" gave Parker his first taste of fame and name recognition.

The following lines can be found in the Carter Family's "Worried Man Blues", their biggest selling record of 1930. The train arrived sixteen coaches long, The train arrived sixteen coaches long. The girl I love is on that train and gone."

Parker's version: Train I ride sixteen coaches long. Train I ride sixteen coaches long. Well, that long black train carries my baby home."

Salute To The Pin-up Girl

A pin-up girl, also known as a pin-up model, is a model whose mass-produced pictures see wide appeal as popular culture. Pin-ups are intended for informal display, e.g. meant to be "pinned-up" on a wall. Pin-up girls may be glamour models, fashion models, or actresses.

The term pin-up may also refer to drawings, paintings, and other illustrations done in emulation of these photos (see the list of pinup artists). The term was first attested to in English in 1941; however, the practice is documented back at least to the 1890s.

The pin-up images could be cut out of magazines or newspapers, or be from postcard or chromo-lithographs, and so on. Such photos often appear on calendars, which are meant to be pinned up anyway. Later, posters of pin-up girls were mass-produced and became an instant hit.

Many pin-ups were photographs of celebrities who were considered sex symbols. One of the most popular early pin-up girls was Betty Grable, whose poster was ubiquitous in the lockers of G.I.s during World War II. Other pin-ups were artwork, often depicting idealized versions of what some thought a particularly beautiful or attractive woman should look like. An early example of the latter type was the Gibson girl, drawn by Charles Dana Gibson. The genre also gave rise to several well-known artists specializing in the field, including Earle K. Bergey, Enoch Bolles, Alberto Vargas, Gil Elvgren, George Petty, and numerous notable artists, such as Rolf Armstrong and Art Frahm.

Notable contemporary pin-up artists include Elias Chatzoudis, Armando Huerta, and Chuck Bauman. Another is popular Pin-Up Artist Olivia De Berardinis who is most famous for her Pin-Up Art of Bettie Page and her pieces in the earlier editions of Playboy.

ne033x's BLIND DATE FROM HELL!!!

We've all been there - you show up for a blind date and expect Ashton Kutcher to come running out of a shitty looking van, telling you that "YOU GOT PUNKED!"

From the minute I showed up at the restaurant, something just felt weird. Kinda like before an earthquake or tornado strikes. Still, a gentleman does not stand a lady up. I told myself to man up. It was just a date. I took my seat at the table, still trying to remember who she was. Evidently we'd met last night, but after about thirty shots of whiskey, I didn't remember shit.

So, she calls this morning - sounded like a hottie on the phone, so when she asked me out, I said sure. I mean - come on - I did give her my number. She had to be a babe.

But then she shows up, and as she walks toward my table, I am whispering to myself: "Please God don't let this be her! PLEASE!"

It was her.

Okay, have you ever ran over a deer in your car? Well, as she sat down, I had that whole deer staring at headlights look going on. All I could think of was that I would never EVER drink again!

She started talking and all I could say was: "haaay."

Okay, I'm a big dude - 6 foot 6 - and this woman was at least 7 feet tall, and built like an NFL linebacker. I could tell from her "guns" that she worked out. Fuck! How was I gonna get out of this one. The usual stuff wouldn't fly - she could easily kick my ass. My terrified little mind was racing.

I blurted out: "I have to poop." Ah yes - old reliable - works every time!

She replied: "Fuck! Me too! Snap!" Adding a wink and saying: "See how much we have in common, Sweety!"

I could only think of one word: "FUCK!"

I took a sip of my White Russian, and with a milk mustache I answered: "Uh huh."

So, like a prison guard escorting a convict to the yard, my date walked me to the bathroom so we BOTH could poop. FUCK!

No sooner had the door shut behind me when I had my Leatherman out and was unscrewing the window security bars. I kept saying - out loud: "OH GOD! OH GOD! OH GOD!"

From the ladies room, I heard a very loud fart, followed by what sounded like a logger boot being thrown in the toilet, and my date yelling: "HELLO!"

I stopped for a second, "No fucking way."

Fuck the screws! I kicked that window out and was gone!

I ran like hell - like an Elan being chased by a Cheetah! And I never looked back!

At home, I crawled through my bedroom window, still uttering "OH GOD! OH GOD! OH GOD!" And I haven't left since. So, that's why I'm blogging so much now..

ne033x Phone Sex Adventure 1

I don’t know this chick, but she IMs me her number. I didn’t want to be rude, so I make the call. Plus, she was hot! I’ll skip the boring intros and go right to the juice.

HER: I’m so wet right now!
ME: cool!
HER: I’m touching myself.
ME: no way? really?
HER: mmmmm
ME: chomp! chomp! chomp!
HER: what’s that sound?
ME: cool ranch doritos.
HER: you’re eating?!
ME: hell yeah. this is great.
HER: fuckin loser! bye! (loud hang up)

It was cool as hell and I feel like a porn star kinda.

Next time I think I’ll eat more quieter.

Elvis Presley - If I Can Dream

Elvis Presley - You gave me a mountain

Born in the heat of the desert
My mother died giving me life
Deprived of the love of a father
Blamed for the loss of his wife
You know lord I've been in a prison
For something that I never done
It's been one hill after another
I've climbed them all one by one

But this time, lord you gave me a mountain
A mountain you know I may never climb
It isn't just a hill any longer
You gave me a mountain this time.

My woman got tired of heartaches
Tired of the grief and the strife
So tired of working for nothing
Just tired of being my wife
She took my one ray of sunshine
She took my pride and my joy
She took my reason for living
She took my small baby boy

But this time, lord you gave me a mountain
A mountain you know I may never climb
It isn't just a hill any longer
You gave me a mountain this time.

Sting - Desert Rose (video slideshow)

"Desert Rose" is a single by Sting from his album Brand New Day (1999). The song peaked at #3 in Switzerland, #4 Italy, #15 in the UK Singles Chart and #17 in the US Billboard Hot 100.

The song is noted for Sting's duet performance with Algerian raï singer Cheb Mami, creating a distinct world music feel to the song. It also has a popular music video featuring Sting taking a trip through the Mojave Desert in a Jaguar S-Type and then going to a nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada to perform the song with Cheb Mami. After shooting the video, Sting's manager Miles Copeland III approached a music licensing maven, Lloyd Simon, to work with Jaguar on a collaboration, and the auto company featured the video in their prominent television advertisements during the year 2000.

Also included on the single releases were club remixes by Victor Calderone. One remixed version of the song was used in an alternative edit of the video, which included more sexually explicit footage.

The lyrics of the song are inspired by the Frank Herbert novel, Dune, of which Sting is a fan. Sting also played the villainous Feyd Rautha in the 1984 film adaptation. Both the book and the song feature the Arabic language, as well as imagery involving moisture and desert plantlife.

Nickelback - If Everyone Cared (video slideshow)

"If Everyone Cared" is the sixth single released from Nickelback's All the Right Reasons, and the single released in Australia and the U.S. respectively ("Animals" was only released in Australia and the U.S., and "Rockstar" only in the UK and U.S.). It was released first in the UK, in 27 November 2006 then in the U.S. in 28 November 2006. The song entered inside the Top 40 on the ARIA Singles Chart on January 7, 2007. The song was then released in most other parts of the world in the beginning of 2007. It debuted at #50 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late January 2007, and climbed to #17. This makes All the Right Reasons the first Nickelback album to feature more than three top 20 singles in the United States. The song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks Chart. The single cover is similar to The Beatles's Please Please Me album cover.

It was announced that 100% of all digital sales for the song will be donated to the charities of Amnesty International, and the International Children's Awareness Canada. This ties into the theme of the song and video of caring about something to work towards the improvement of human civilization.

It is currently in use on Animal Planet's TV series I'm Alive as the show's theme.

Katrina and the Waves - Love Shine A Light

"Love Shine a Light" was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1997, performed by Katrina and the Waves for the United Kingdom, composed by Kimberley Rew. It is the group's biggest success since "Walking on Sunshine" 12 years earlier.

Rew composed the song following a request from the brother of Alex Cooper (the band's drummer) for an anthem for The Samaritans. The song was selected as the UK's Eurovision entry by public vote on 15 March 1997. It received 69,834 votes, 11,138 more than the second place song.

The contest was held on 3 May 1997 in the Point Theatre, Dublin. The song was awarded maximum points by ten countries, scoring 227 of a possible 288, the most points a Eurovision entry ever won until Ukraine's Ruslana broke the record in 2004. However, since Ukraine competed in a pool of 36 countries, wider than the 25 countries in 1997, Love Shine a Light still maintains a higher percentage of votes won. It won the third-highest ever percentage of total votes after United Kingdom's Save Your Kisses for Me in 1976 and Germany's Ein bißchen Frieden in 1982. When Alexander Rybak's "Fairytale" won for Norway in 2009, not only did he get the most points ever, 387 out of a possible 492, he also go the most number of 12s, 16 from 41 countries. Second placed Iceland were over 50 points behind. Strangely though the percentage of votes are virtually identical with "Love shine a light" getting 78.82% and "Fairyale" 78.66%.

Katrina Leskanich, lead singer of the band, commented that it was the second landslide of the week - the Labour Party led by Tony Blair had won the UK general election held two days earlier, on 1 May 1997.

The song was succeeded in 1998 as Contest winner by Dana International representing Israel performing Diva. This song was also performed as part of a medley in the introduction of the 50th anniversary show for the ESC in Copenhagen as well as the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2006, in Athens.

A remix of the song was performed during the UK selection process final of 2008, Eurovision: Your Decision.
