Sometimes we have something
Without truly knowing
What we have
Sometimes we hold something
Without knowing completely
What we hold
Sometimes we are given something
Without fully appreciating
What we are given
But that knowledge usually comes
When we realize
What we have lost
-Javan
I first discovered Javan in Seattle back in the early 90s. A stripper friend of mine told me about this poet - said I had to read one of his books. Forget which one it was, but she bought me a copy, and I read it cover to cover. Such is Javan's poetry for most - once you start reading, you can't stop. I found myself at the bookstore buying every book they had, and even special ordering one.
Back then, the rumor was that Javan was this down to earth "real dude", who published his own books while living on the streets. I honestly have no idea about anything about the man, except that I just recently found out that Javan is his middle name.
What I do know is that his poetry spoke right to my soul. And, a lot of people say that as well. If you haven't had a chance to check out some of his poetry, I highly recommend it. The following is a bio taken from his website.
Javan's journey to become one of America's most successful self-published authors has certainly been down "The Road Less Traveled".
He was born, Steven Javan Jones, October 19, 1946 in a small North Carolina town. He lived and grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina through his high school and college years. In 1968 he moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he worked as an agent for Eastern Airlines until the end of 1977. In 1979 Javan self-published his first book and started traveling around the country with his golden retriever puppy, Brandon, introducing his book to bookstores.
Javan has a unique way of capturing some of life's most important emotions through the eyes we all may see but rarely are able to put into words. He relates this poetry in such a way, that it is not difficult to find one of his poems that strike a cord in all of our hearts. Javan now has four titles of his poetry available. He still travels frequently both nationally and internationally.

And I have included my favorite Javan poetry with all of my personal - from the heart - music videos at my very personal blog: http://diliggaq.blogspot.com/
I am working on a couple music videos, incorporating Javan poetry within them!
